Team's Copy

This P.A.R.T.Y. in  Box scenario was used at the MN State Tournament in May, 2001.

It has been reformatted as a sample challenge.

On an expedition in the jungle you have discovered a new species of animal or plant, or a new mineral. What a scientific discovery! Turn one of the people on your team into this animal, plant or mineral and come up with a P.A.R.T.Y. that tells:

1. Information about this thing, such as where it lives/exists, what it eats or consumes or destroys, when it's awake and asleep, whether it hunts, and so on.

2. How this animal, plant or mineral affects the environment, both in positive and negative ways.

3. Describe your adventure that led to this discovery.

4. Do you tell the world of its existence which could lead to its extinction? Or do you keep quiet about it and try to help it survive-or hope that it doesn't?

5. Show how its "differentness" affects your decision.

Be sure to give us lots of information about the people in your expedition, as well as who you work for, why you're there--or anything else that will make the story interesting! Do some of the other people disagree with the expedition leader? How is a decision reached? If you'd like, skip ahead in time and show whether the decision was a good one or a bad one.

You will have five minutes in which to set up and perform your P.A.R.T.Y. A backdrop holder will be provided. You will have at least an 8X10-ft. space in which to perform. At the end of four and one-half minutes, a timer (person) will hold up a yellow folder, which means that you have 30 seconds to finish your show. You must clean up the area after the performance. Good luck!
